Fifty Years of painting The Black Country
EXHIBITION AVAILABLE FOR HIRE
To British and European Museums and Art Galleries,
Universities and other cultural institutions.
This continuously evolving collection works (currently comprising of more than 200 drawings and paintings) has been produced exclusively on location in the area of the West Midlands known universally since the Industrial Revolution as “The Black Country” over a period of 50 years by this prolific and well known painter.
Although the exhibition is focused on The Black Country, its ethos transcends the particular as it touches on deeper levels of consciousness, loneliness, contemplation, and reflections on the human condition, the environment and the passage of time. These subtle references to philosophical and universal issues, together with integrated TV coverage and information panels, make the exhibition relevant to audiences beyond the confines of the West Midlands.
The available work (some 100 linear metres) has never before been exhibited in its entirety although significant sections have formed major solo and touring exhibitions in venues as diverse as Durham Light Infantry Museum, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Blackburn City Art Galleries, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

The exhibition as a whole represents a continuous evolution of vision and attitude from early childhood to maturity. His work has passed through distinctive phases, from his early studies as a student at Stourbridge College of Art in the 1960s, his continued personal development as an Art Teacher in local schools in the 70s, his epic panoramas from Oldnall Hill in the early 80s and his “Night Paintings” which were generated by force of circumstance during the late 80s into the 90s and which have continued in various guises ever since.
His absolute commitment to working on site has attracted wide press interest, from Mail on Sunday Colour Supplement to Le Figaro. and his website has numerous examples of footage of British and French TV footage from the 1980s to the present day.
